Koba

As long as you tell me why you lied about the book being for your husband, I can forgive my clothes getting an extra rinsing.

Kate

It wasn’t a lie as much as an inside joke. You know how it is when you first start dating. A special event comes up and you think you found the perfect gift, only it isn’t? And you continue failing to find it all through high school and then all through college? It can be embarrassing.

Koba

And terribly expensive, I’d imagine.

Kate

You have no idea. One time, Pete got me this ugly little chain made of nickel. Thing is, I’m deathly allergic to nickel. We ended up spending that first Valentine’s Day in the emergency room. Now we always buy our own gifts and say they are from each other. That way we get exactly what we want, and no one swells up like a balloon.

Koba

That’s depressing.

Kate

How is it depressing?

Koba

‘cause then there’s no risk to it. It doesn’t even show how well you know your partner. It’s too easy, is what it is.

Kate

It’s efficient. And I don’t remember asking your opinion.

Koba

You’re right. Sometimes I get so deep into a fight, I forget that being right doesn’t mean being unkind.

Kate

Is the rhyming a part of your apology? Or is it you trying too hard to be liked again?

Koba

No. Well, maybe a little.

Indebted to her clueless husband, Kate is resigned to stay buried in her dead end job, until one day, she meets a mysterious man and begins a journey of self discovery that will bring her to the edge of all she knows.

Until Death

I’d be perfectly happy to not go into that.
